abstract = "Green areas within the city contribute to a good quality of life,
for comfort environmental and aesthetics of the city. These areas
are undergoing pressure due to the housing boom and the city of
Rio Branco is also included in this framework. Being a capital
located in the Amazon, there is a greater concern with the amount
of these areas, which are remnants of this biome. The green areas
are important for the absorption of storm water that is intense in
this region. 92.7% of the population of Rio Branco in the urban
area, ie a high degree of urbanization. In urban area, these areas
are: {\'A}rea de Prote{\c{c}}{\~a}o Ambiental Irineu Serra,
                         {\'A}rea de Prote{\c{c}}{\~a}o Ambiental Amap{\'a}, {\'A}rea

Universit{\'a}rio. The predominant vegetation is continuous
forest open with bamboo and palm. The spatial distribution and
quantification of the areas was done using tools with Geographic
Information Systems software ArcGIS 9.2. For visualization and
delineation, was used imagery satellite sensor FORMOSAT. According
to analysis, the ratio of green areas to the urban area of Rio
Branco is 10 m² / inhabitant, and the environmental quality index
                         is 7.01%.",
